Red Bank families displaced after apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

A handful of families in Red Bank are homeless after their apartment complex goes up in flames Sunday morning.

The fire at Ravenscroft apartments on Midvale Avenue occurred sometime around 1 a.m. Fire officials believe the blaze started on the bottom floor of a three-story building.

Ten of the apartment units were occupied at the time of the fire. Deputy Fire Chief Brent Sylar says six units are heavily damaged.

Residents tell Channel 3 one man was taken to the hospital for his injuries and believe the fire started when he fell asleep smoking a cigarette.

Another resident says the fire alarms did not go off.

The same building caught fire back in July.

The power to the building has been cut, and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Stay with Channel 3 for updates on this developing story.
