Chattanooga named as one of America's top 10 cities for pet adoption

More than 19,000 pets  found their new homes during PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, which was September 13-15.

The event was held in partnership with more than 2,000 local adoption groups at PetSmart stores across the country.

The top 10 cities for pet adoptions were:

  1. Phoenix, Ariz. (295 adoptions)                                   
  2. Fort Worth, Texas (284 adoptions)
  3. Albuquerque, N.M. (273 adoptions)
  4. Evansville, Ind. (200 adoptions)
  5. Chattanooga, Tenn. (186 adoptions)
  6. San Antonio, Texas (184 adoptions)
  7. Terre Haute, Ind. (175 adoptions)
  8. Des Moines, Iowa (163 adoptions)
  9. Houston, Texas (133 adoptions)
  10. Green Bay, Wis. (132 adoptions)

A total of 2,025 pets found new homes and families.

"We're ecstatic that our adoption partners helped find loving homes for more than 19,000 pets during National Adoption Weekend," said Jan Wilkins, executive director, PetSmart Charities, Inc. "Hats off to everyone in these top ten cities for going the extra mile to help save the lives of homeless pets."

PetSmart Charities rewarded local adoption partners with $35 in adoption-reward grants for every pet adopted at the event.

The next PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend on November 15-17.
