The home had been converted into two apartments. Officials say he started the fire in the upstairs apartment and then left.

Firefighters contained the fire to the upstairs apartment and no one was injured. The fire caused an estimated $35,000 in damage.

Shropshire told police he did start the fire but it was an accident. He would not explain why he left the scene.

He was charged with aggravated arson.
