LaFayette man arrested while carrying the evidence

Posted: Updated:

LaFayette police say it was an open and shut case when a man was caught in the act, stealing and re-selling industrial equipment.
The owner of Quality Carpet Cushion says 11 industrial electric motors were taken from his building, that has easy access from damage caused by a fire.
The thief was spotted inside the building this week, and workers called 911.
Police say Gerald James was taking the $25,000 motors to Trion to sell for scrap at $200 each.
When James was searched, police say they not only found meth on him, but also the receipts from the sale of the motors tucked-away in his wallet.
James has been charged with burglary of over $235,000, criminal trespass, loitering and possession.
