On Wednesday the Hamilton County Community said farewell to a well-known advocate for animals.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Guy Bilyeu, the Director of the Humane educational Society.

Meanwhile, he's left to fill a massive void in its organization.

Bilyeu served as executive director and primary fund raiser for more than a decade.

Wednesday night, the board of directors met to make some tough choices.

Dr. Tai Federico, the board president was named his interim director.

He tells Channel 3 a nationwide search is being launched, and will likely take 6 to 10 weeks.

He says the group will never be able to replace Bilyeu, but they hope to find someone to carry on his legacy.

The organization's largest event of the year, Paws in the Park, will be a tribute to Guy Bilyeu this year.
