CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- On the heels of its first win over an FBS program since 1984, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team picked up its first Southern Conference Player of Week recognition of the season Monday.
Junior running back Keon Williams is the league's offensive honoree after leading the Mocs to a 42-14 win at Georgia State on Saturday.
Williams set the tone for the Mocs in the opening drive of the game. He had 49 yards and a touchdown on just five carries to give UTC a 7-0 lead early in the contest. He dominated the first half, finishing with 119 yards rushing in just 30 minutes of play.
For the game, Williams ran for his second career 100-yard outing. He had the one score and a career-high 147 yards on 20 carries. The Chattanooga native averaged 7.4 yards per carry and is now No. 2 in the SoCon with 93.5 rushing yards per game.
The Mocs finished with 401 yards on the ground against the Panthers. It was their most rushing yards in a game since posting 404 against VMI on Oct. 15, 1994.
UTC is back in action this weekend against Austin Peay. The Mocs host the Governors at Finley Stadium for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 14.
