New church takes over downtown YMCA on Sundays

There are nearly 800 listings for places to worship in Chattanooga and now one more can be added to that list.

On any given day the downtown YMCA is filled with families and heath enthusiasts but this Sunday the workout studio transformed for a church service complete with live music.

While Scenic City Church is new to the city, its message is an old one.

"We want to love people well. That's the goal we're striving for is to love people well because Christ loves people well," Pastor Daniel Hicks says.

It's Hicks first role as senior pastor; he and his wife planted the Scenic City Church in downtown Chattanooga after seeing there was a need. Sunday was the church's first worship service and the turnout could not have been better.

"We'd love for people to come to Scenic City but we know other great churches in this city. If you don't connect with us, let us help you connect somewhere else because the big picture that we're working for is to connect you with God and his family, whether that's here or somewhere else," says Hicks.

Service begins at 10:30 every Sunday at the downtown YMCA. You can also visit for more information.
