Stringer's Ridge celebrates grand opening

Posted: Updated:

After four years of anticipation Stringer's Ridge Park celebrated their grand opening Saturday.

There was public outcry in 2008, when a developer proposed putting condos on the land.

Those plans were scrapped and the land was donated to a public trust.

The park features up to eight miles of mountain biking, hiking and running trails all within less than two miles from the heart of downtown.

Many say they're excited about having such beautiful trails, in such a convenient location.

"I work just five minutes from here so it's gonna be perfect for me getting off work, and getting a good ride in on my bike," said David Tilley.

The park is a $2.6-million project. The city agreed to pay $500,000. The rest was raised by the trust for public land and most of the work was done by volunteers.
