Chattanooga area schools get safety grants

CHATTANOOGA, TN - School students in Athens, Tenn., soon will have a safer walk to school because of a state grant.

Gov. Bill Haslam this morning announced that the city of Athens will receive $170,446 from the Safe Routes to School program for kindergarten through eighth grade.

The city will use the money for sidewalks, crosswalks, signage and pavement markings for the Ingleside Elementary school zone area, according to a news release.
