A move by Delta Air Lines to reduce service at Memphis International Airport will eliminate a direct flight from Memphis to Knoxville.

Delta had previously announced plans to eliminate its hub in Memphis, but the practical impact of that move became apparent this week with the elimination of more than two dozen flights out of Memphis.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that the carrier is eliminating 29 flights, including one to Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport.

Becky Huckaby, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority, which operates McGhee Tyson, said Monday that "we do hate to see the Memphis flight go away," but indicated that the move shouldn't have a significant impact on passengers looking to connect through Memphis.
