Man, 23, drowns in northwest GA lake

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A 23-year-man has drowned in a northwest Georgia lake.

Authorities say Nicholas Alexander was spending the day on Lake Allatoona with his parents on Sunday when he dove off a rental boat near the swimming beach at Red Top Mountain State Park and didn't make it to shore.

WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/14SpkLX) that his body was found shortly before 6:30 p.m. Sunday in about 30 feet of water.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Sgt. Mike Barr said witnesses on the beach heard Alexander called for help, but by the time help arrived it was too late.
