Marina economy sees boost for holiday weekend

Posted: Updated:
DALTON, GA (WRCB) -

It was a busy afternoon Saturday for locals wanting to take their boats out on the water this holiday weekend.

One dock in Dayton unloaded over 40 boats within a few hours of opening up.

Channel 3 traveled to that side of town where docks, restaurants, hotels and businesses received a big boost - thanks to all the extra visitors stopping by.

The mayor of Dayton believes this Labor Day, combined with the big fishing tournament,  brought in visitors from all over.

"All the motels are full, eateries are filled up and gas sales bomb," says Mayor Gary Louallen.

Mayor Louallen says he's looking forward to the 20 scheduled boating and fishing events that will take place there up until spring 2014.
