Watch collectors come together for annual convention in Chattanooga

Posted: Updated:

The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors began in 1943. While the group's numbers have gone down over the years Saturday's show is a good indicator there are still many out there with a fascination with clocks and time keeping.

The art and science of time keeping is called horology and it's brought visitors from surrounding states to the Scenic City for the Mid-south Regional Convention for watch collectors.

On Saturday the public was able to visit and buy from more than 200 tables of clocks, watches, tools and books about time keeping.

Organizers say Chattanooga is the perfect city to host the big event.

"Each year on Labor Day weekend we have the big show in Chattanooga because Chattanooga is centrally located to all these chapters," says watch builder and collector, Bob Chapman. "If you're in the business of restoring clocks this is where you get your parts."

This year's NAWCC clock convention is expected to pump more than $100,000 into the Scenic City's economy.
