UPDATE: Police chase suspects identified

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: Chattanooga Police Chief Bobby Dodd says they have arrested the other two suspects involved in a police chase Thursday.

Police arrested Robert Penn III and Thomas Lee Ellis.

Penn was charged with robbery, burglary of an auto and theft over $1000, Ellis was charged with burglary of an auto and theft over $1000.

Chattanooga police arrested a teenager Thursday who helped the other suspects escape.

Chattanooga police are searching for the suspects who shot at a federal agent, broke into his car and led police on a chase. Our camera was rolling as a teenager was arrested, but police say there are more suspects still on the run.

Chattanooga Police say they're on the lookout for one or two more suspects, but are not releasing a description. Some members of the community say it's scary knowing criminals that have been so brazen are still eluding police.

"It's possible anything could happen now with so much going on and it's awful for something like that to happen, so you never can tell you just have to be on alert in all instances," Calvin Davis said.

Calvin Davis saw cop cars gathered at what turned out to be an unrelated crime Friday in East Ridge, but stopped to see if it could be police catching up with the suspects that have many on edge. It wasn't and Davis says that's unnerving.

"One to two, possibly two more suspects at this time. We don't have anymore information on the suspects other than black males," Chattanooga Police Officer Tim McFarland said.

It all started just after 3 o'clock Thursday morning on North Concord Road in East Brainerd. An agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration spotted several men breaking into his car.

"The DEA agent confronted the suspects as they were trying to leave, apparently one of them fired shots at the  DEA agent," Officer McFarland said.

The agent was not injured, but they did get away with items from his car, including his soft body armor. Thursday afternoon, officers spotted the getaway car, a maroon SUV, in the Brainerd area. When they tried to catch up, another car interfered with the pursuit.

"Another suspect vehicle cut that officer off and actually tried to ram that officers car," Officer McFarland said.

The SUV got away. The car trying to ram officers crashed. A teen was driving and ran off on foot, but officers caught and arrested him. They don't know if the teen was involved in the incident with the DEA agent, but say he did help the suspects escape.

"I just got a call saying my car was found," Joseph D'Angelo said.

The car the teen was driving, was reported stolen from Red Bank. The getaway SUV was later recovered. It was stolen from East Ridge.

Again, Chattanooga Police are still searching for one to two suspects who shot at the DEA agent, stole Armour from his car, and got away from police in a stolen vehicle. We'll keep you updated on the latest developments on air and online.
