SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Hunter Maynor threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns and Soddy-Daisy overcame several mistakes to beat rival Red Bank 21-7 Thursday night on newly-dedicated Robert Talaska Field.
The Trojans, who turned it over three times in the first quarter and two first-half touchdowns called back by penalty, scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to improve to 2-0.
Two of Maynor's scores went to Tre Carter, including the go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter. Alex Roberts caught the other touchdown pass from Maynor, who finished 21-of-30 in the air.
Michael Robinson broke loose for a 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give the Lions (0-2) an early lead, but Red Bank mustered just 86 yards of offense in the second half and also had two touchdowns called back by penalty.
The victory caps a big week for new Soddy-Daisy coach Justin Barnes, whose wife, Becca, gave birth to new daughter, Brinkley, on Tuesday. It was also a special night for Talaska, who was surprised by a dedication ceremony during the pregame festivities after serving as the Trojans' manager for the past four decades.
