Bradley Co. residents take action to reinstate animal control

Posted: Updated:

Bradley county residents are calling on commissioners to reinstate animal control services.

Monday some of those residents showed up the courthouse, representing an online petition with more than 500 signatures.

The Cleveland Animal Shelter has been closed to county residents since last month because county and city leaders failed to reach an agreement on the county's share of the animal control budget.

"Animals are not being taken care of in the county as we speak," says Lisa Green.
"There is no contracted place between the city and the county, so that's really what we are looking for. We don't want those stray animals or those lost animals to be shot on sight. We want there to be a plan in place so they can be taken care of."

The commission agreed to creating a committee to work on the issue. Residents say it's a step in the right direction, but not the news they were hoping for.
