Posted: Updated:

A dog who was found badly abused and had to undergo life saving surgery has a new home.

A couple that lives in Chattanooga adopted the 60-pound mixed breed dog, named Fred, this week.

A passerby spotted Fred on the side of the road badly mutilated. Wally's Friends performed extensive surgery to repair the damage.

"One day they will have to answer for what they did to Fred and I would hate to be that person at that point in time," says Daniel Wyatt.

Britney and Daniel Wyatt are now Fred's proud new parents.

"We saw the story on Channel 3 and I looked at my wife and I said we need to adopt that dog," says Daniel.

The local couple says Fred is adjusting well to his new environment.

They also say he loves long walks, gourmet dog treats, and his fluffy bed.

Channel 3 stopped by over the weekend to see Fred, our crew said he's definitely soaking up all the attention and seems to be enjoying every minute.

Daniel says Fred wakes him at 5 a.m. wanting a long walk and breakfast.

"He likes to lay down and cuddle and get belly rubs. I lay down with him by his bed and he will put his paws around me and kiss my face," says Britney. "It's like he's been here for ever."

Fred is expected to fully recover.  His final veterinarian visit is this week to remove the stitches.
