Band of the Week: Cleveland Blue Raider Marching Band

Posted: Updated:

The Blue Raider Marching Band from Cleveland, Tennessee gets EPB Fiber Optics Band of the Week program started this year.

Some 120 members strong and donned in uniforms of blue, black, and white, their halftime show traces the piano's role in history and popular music. It is entitled "88 Keys; A Piano Story."

For us, they play "Blazin' Blue," their fight song which has a history of its own. Director Jim Burton tells me the song was written by Crill Higgins when he started the band program at Cleveland High School back in the 1960s.

The Blue Raider Marching Band plans to travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania, this winter, to take part in the USBands National Championships.

As we get into October, if you would like to help support their trip, look for their annual citrus sale. Find details on the Cleveland Band website, or call the band room at Cleveland High School.

A big thanks to Mr. Burton and the Blue Raider marching Band!
