TDOT Construction projects in eastern Tennessee

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

BRADLEY COUNTY, I-75 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee Beam Bridge, including grading, drainage and paving at the Exit 20 interchange (U.S. 64 Bypass East, U.S. 74 East, SR-311, APD-40) (LM 4.86) in Cleveland:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be working on clearing and drainage during this report period.  No lane closures are scheduled during this time.  Any work requiring interstate lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 7PM - 6AM.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2015.  

BRADLEY COUNTY, Benton Pike, Durkee Road ,and Michigan Avenue, grading, drainage, and paving on a State Industrial Access route serving the Whirlpool Corporation:  The contractor has begun work on this project at the Whirlpool Corporation plant.  There will be intermittent lane shifts.  Please pay close attention to the construction signs and flaggers on the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is July 2014.  

BRADLEY and POLK COUNTIES, SR-74 (GA225/Spring Place Road) between the Tennessee/Georgia State Line and SR-313 (Ladd Springs Road) construction of two concrete box bridges over the Conasauga River Overflow (LM 0.01) and the Conasauga River (LM 0.14) including grading, drainage and paving:  SR-74 (GA225/Spring Place Road) is closed to traffic for the duration of the project to replace two bridges between the GA/TN state line and MM 0.45.  There are detour signs and message boards posted in GA and TN to assist motorists, and major delays are expected.  Local traffic will be permitted, at all times, to access businesses and residential property within road closure area.  However traffic will not be permitted to enter the active work area that is adjacent to the Conasauga River bridges.  Every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience to motorists, businesses, residences, and property owners.  TDOT and consultant staff will be available throughout the project to address any questions or concerns.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013.  

BRADLEY COUNTY, U.S. 11 (U.S. 64, SR-2) resurfacing from at the Hamilton County line (LM. 0.00) to east of Boss Road (LM. 6.29):  Pavement scoring and placing of thermoplastic pavement markings will be scheduled in the near future.  There will be intermittent lane shifts.  Please pay close attention to the construction signs and flaggers on the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013.  

BRADLEY COUNTY, I-75 South drainage repair project between MM 20 and MM 21 (LM 5.22):  The contractor is removing, replacing, and extending the drainage pipe in this location.  Estimated project completion date is August 2013.

BRADLEY COUNTY, U.S. 74 (SR- 311) traffic control equipment upgrade from I-75 to Blackburn Road in Cleveland:  This project will undergo additional work on SR-311 that will require occasional shoulder and lane closures.  One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.  Estimated completion date is September 2013.  

BRADLEY and HAMILTON COUNTIES, I-75 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System from mile marker xx to mile marker xx:  Work on this project has begun.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs soil boring for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May 2014.  

HAMILTON COUNTY, I-24 and I-75 resurfacing project:  I-24 resurfacing from west of Spring Creek Rd. (MM 185) to I-75 (MM 185.7); I-75 resurfacing from the Georgia State Line (MM 0.00) to south of Chickamauga Creek (MM 1.91):  Work on this project is complete pending addressing of punchlist items.  Any work requiring lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 9PM - 6AM.  THP will assist with traffic control.

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7AM and 6PM on Mondays through Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013.  

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7PM to 6AM to perform road work.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  Weather permitting, the contractor will have a nighttime lane closure on U.S. 27 North from the Olgiati Bridge to the Dayton Blvd. exit ramp on Thursday, August 22.  Additionally, Signal Mtn. Road will be closed between the North and South entrance and exit ramps on Thursday and Friday nights to allow the contractor to tighten and torque the bolts on the new bridge girders over Signal Mtn. Rd.  All of these closures will take place between 7PM and 6AM.  Should weather delay this work, it will be rescheduled to take place at the first available time.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014.  

HAMILTON COUNTY, Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the temporary paving on the SB side of the project and the contractor is working on road and drainage on the NB side of the project.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013.  

HAMILTON COUNTY, SR-319 (Hixson Pike) resurfacing (microsurfacing) from south of Warwickshire Drive (LM 12.51) to U.S. 27 (SR-29) (LM 21.27):  This project takes place near the Lakesite and Soddy-Daisy areas.  Rumble striping and pavement marking operations will take place during this report period.  This work will require lane closures.  Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013.  

HAMILTON COUNTY, construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014.  

MARION COUNTY, U.S. 41 (U.S. 64, U.S. 72, SR-2) replacement of the truss bridge over the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake (LM 21.14) with a multi-span steel plate girder bridge:  The truss bridge is now closed to all through traffic until the new adjacent bridge currently under construction is completed.  A detour route that adds an additional 1.5 miles to the current route is posted.  Estimated project completion date is February 2014.  

MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, paving, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and retaining wall from County Road 609 to the 4-lane section in Etowah:  The contractor is moving dirt in this phase of the project.  County Road 607 is currently closed, and a marked detour is in place.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  The contractor is installing a detour, and there will be lane shifts on this project.  Estimated project completion is November 2014.  

MCMINN and POLK COUNTIES, resurfacing (microsurfacing) in McMinn County at U.S 11 (SR-2) from the Bradley County line (LM 0.00) to the four-lane section (LM 7.30), and SR-163 (Bowater Road) from west of Piney Grove Road (LM 8.95) to the Polk County Line (LM 14.56).  In Polk County on SR-163 (Bowater Road) from the McMinn County Line (LM 0.00) to SR-30 (LM 0.92):  Pavement scoring and placing of thermoplastic pavement markings will be scheduled in the near future.  There will be intermittent lane shifts during this work.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013.  

MEIGS COUNTY, SR-30 relocation beginning east of the Tennessee River to west of SR-58:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic will not be affected at this time.   Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is October 2013.  

RHEA and MEIGS COUNTIES, SR-30 bridge repair over Tennessee River (LM 17.26):  Work is substantially complete on this project, and all lanes on the bridge are open to traffic.  Estimated project completion date is August 2013.
