Statistics show over 98 percent of the driving population has never had more than 10 minutes of formal driving training on how to avoid accidents

Saturday, seven students and their parents put their driving skills to the test.

The students got into their cars thinking it would just be a drive around the block, but they, and their parents, found it to be much more informative than they thought.

The purpose of the accident avoidance workshop is to teach kids what to do in dangerous driving situations like when someone pulls out in front of you. when it's raining.

The instructor, Jeffrey Stillwell, had every student accelerate as fast as they could go and then slam on the brakes to show how long it takes for their car to stop.

Stillwell said they will be holding a few more of these classes in Chattanooga this fall and says space is limited
