Hundreds attend minority health fair

Posted: Updated:

When it comes to healthcare statistics show minorities are more likely to be uninsured which means many forego trips to the doctor and miss out on possibly live-saving early detection and treatment.

Saturday hundreds of local vendors provided free screenings to thousands of people at the Minority Health Fair at East Gate Town Center in Chattanooga.

The 11th annual fair was all an effort to change those statistics locally.

"[We] try to provide this information where we can address those that have health concerns that don't have the means to go to the doctor themselves," says vendor Anthony Sammons.

Organizers say for each person-- it saved at least $200 in lab tests plus dental and other specialty services.

They're already planning for next year.
