(NBC) - A small plane crashed into two homes in Connecticut causing a fire late on Friday morning, according to fire officials in the town of East Haven.

It is not known whether there have been any injuries, or whether people were in the structures that were hit in the crash around 11:25 pm local time, according to East Haven Fire Chief Anthony Moscato.

Mayor Joseph Maturo told NBC Connecticut that one of the two Cape-style homes struck by the crash was vacant at the time of the incident, but he was not sure about the other.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a multi-engine turbo prop plane was involved in the crash in the town just east of New Haven. The plane went down on its approach into the Tweed-New Haven Airport, according to the FAA.

The plane was flying to Connecticut from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
