KNOXVILLE (News Sentinel) -

A mother accused of trying to smother her 8-month-old daughter in the child's hospital bed remains in jail with another child on the way.

Krista Lashay Faubion, 20, of Pigeon Forge faces a charge of aggravated child abuse. A Knox County grand jury indicted her last month.

"Krista Faubion has a history of behavior that designates her as a danger to herself and others," her lawyer, E. Catherine Cox, wrote in a motion filed in Knox County Criminal Court last week. "This behavior has resulted in the slow but complete dismantling of Krista's life."

Police say the abuse happened Sept. 2 while Faubion's infant daughter, Kaylee, was a patient at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk wouldn't give details.
