Man arrested in Whitfield for disturbance

Posted: Updated:

A man was taken into custody in front of the Whitfield County Court House for allegedly making threats.

Police say 63-year-old Richard Alan Freeman went to Georgia Legal Services on Crawford Street and locked the lobby door behind himself.  He asked to see an attorney and said he was going to sue the federal government and wanted help.

He apparently became hostile after he was asked to leave and caused a disturbance.

He was gone when police arrived. They located him at the courthouse.

Police say he made some sort of threat, but could not release specifics. Officers performed a search of Freeman's bag, but nothing was found.

He was taken into custody. Dalton Police, Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Police responded to the scene.
