WHITEFIELD COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -

Whitfield County Public Works plans to repave a section of Mount Vernon Road riddled with potholes.

Officials plan to repave the section of road between Houston Valley Road and Cottonwood Mill Road.

"It is the top layer of asphalt that is peeling up," says DeWayne Hunt with public works, "but the root of the problem is with the second layer, leaving a shallow pothole about 1 inch deep."

Public works says shallow potholes like that are difficult to patch because the patches are beat out by traffic.

In the fall, WCPW will have the entire road width milled about 2.5 inches deep, then repaved.
Both the milling and the additional asphalt required will be an expensive repair, but should provide a permanent solution for all citizens that travel that particular section of road, Hunt said.
