Orchard Knob teachers travel into the community to understand students
Teachers, staff and administrators at Orchard Knob Middle spent their school prep day out of the classroom and in the community Saturday, in an effort to understand where their students come from.
Teachers and staff loaded onto a bus and headed off for different areas in the community. Orchard Knob is an I-Zone school, meaning teachers and administrators believe in a unique approach to better students.
This time it's the teachers' turn to go to class.
"We're just going out into the community to basically get a glimpse of where our students are coming from, just to show them that we care and we want to understand them more as they get ready to come back," sixth grade teacher, Lakeisha Thompson says.
The bus tour included stops at the East Chattanooga Rec Center, Avondale Rec Center, the Grove Street Center and ended at the Bethlehem center. School begins for Hamilton County Students August 8.
