MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Murfreesboro police are searching for a man accused of attempting to kidnap a 14-year-old girl last week.

Eswin Noe Arevalo Alvarado, 25, allegedly grabbed the teenager by the arm while she was walking to a friend's home on Bradyville Pike on July 24, according to police.

The suspect then tried to pull her toward his apartment. When a witness yelled for the suspect to stop, Alvarado took off on foot and left the area before police arrived.

"She was almost past him when he jumped real fast and grabbed her," said Monty McCoy, who yelled at the suspect. "He was pulling her up his sidewalk up into his steps before it gets to his door.

"He was trying to pull her into the house until he saw me coming, and that's when he let her go. She was struggling so hard both straps on her backpack was falling down over her arms."

"We have exhausted our efforts locating the suspect, so we're asking the public for help in locating this individual, because we have a lot of very serious questions that we want to sit down and ask him," said Murfreesboro police spokesman Sgt. Kyle Evans.

The victim's mother said she is terrified by the thought of what could have happened to her daughter had a neighbor not stepped in to help.

"Ain't no telling what could have happened, and I thank God my friend was there to save her," Kim Coleman said. "That's my child. She could have been gone for the rest of her life, and I wouldn't have known nothing, just within the blink of an eye."

Police say the suspect's last known address is 1446 Bradyville Pike, and detectives haven't been able to track him down.

Now, the worried mom isn't taking any chances, so she's doing her own neighborhood watch.

"If they don't catch him, something like this is going to happen again," Coleman said. "I'm going to do what I have to do to protect my child."

McCoy said his children are no longer allowed to walk to their friend's home alone.

"For a grown man to try to do that to a kid, he's nothing but a coward," said McCoy. "It makes you really upset thinking about it because it's right down the road from your kids."

Alvarado was described as having a stocky build, stands about 5'4" with short black hair with a mohawk. He has multiple tattoos, including a star above his heart, a heart with wings on his right bicep area, a cross on his left bicep area and an earring in his left ear.

He is believed to be driving a gray two-door Toyota Celica.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Kristy Inglish at 615-893-2717.
