Riders escort biker to final resting place

Posted: Updated:
SPRING CITY, TN (WRCB) -

Friends and family members gathered in Spring City to pay their final respects to a fellow biker.

Ira "Joe" Fason died earlier this month from lung failure.

Local community members put together a farewell tribute that started at 9 a.m. Monday at the Hamilton Memorial Funeral Home, following the burial at the Cofer Cemetery in Hixson.

Over 100 people showed up to help fulfill Ira's final wish. "He wanted to have all his motorcycle buddies escort him to his final resting place," Maura Duncon said.

Over a three year span, Ira had multiple surgeries to try and repair a failing collapsed lung.

On July 14, his friend called 911 after noticing he was having a hard time breathing.

Ira passed away in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He was 58 years old.
