Lookouts' slide continues with shutout loss in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WRCB) -- Big-leaguer Paul Konerko singled in his first at-bat and drove in a run to spark Birmingham's 4-0 win over Chattanooga in the opener of a five-game Southern League series Thursday night at Regions Park.
The Lookouts have now lost six of seven to drop to 11-14 in the second half and 46-49 overall..
Konerko went 1-for-2 in the first game of his minor league rehab assignment, delivering an RBI-single to right off Chattanooga starter Andres Santiago to give the Barons a 3-0 lead in the third.
Santiago (3-8) gave up all four runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out seven, walked four, and also gave up a solo home run to Dan Black.
The Lookouts' offense mustered just four hits. J.T. Wise's double was the only one that went for extra bases.
The two teams will play game two of the series at 8:05 p.m. ET Friday night.
