Alabama tabbed as preseason media favorite in SEC

Posted: Updated:

HOOVER, Ala. (WRCB) -- Alabama was picked to beat Georgia in a repeat of last year's SEC championship game in preseason voting by league media announced Thursday on the final day of SEC Media Days.

Both the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs were heavy favorites to repeat as division champs, while South Carolina (14), Texas A&M (4) and LSU (1) were the only other teams to receive votes as potential league champs.

Tennessee was picked to finish fifth in the Eastern Division, ahead of only Missouri and Kentucky.

Two-time defending national champion Alabama had seven players named to the preseason All-SEC first-team roster, while Georgia had two.

Running back T.J. Yeldon, wide receiver Amari Cooper, offensive linemen Anthony Steen and Cyrus Kouandjo, linebacker C.J. Mosley and defensive backs Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Deion Blue represented the Crimson Tide on the first team roster.

Running back Todd Gurley and tight end Arthur Lynch received the Bulldogs' two first-team nods. Quarterback Aaron Murray was a third-team selection.

Linebacker A.J. Johnson was Tennessee's lone representative on the first-team roster, though offensive lineman Tiny Richardson and Ja'Wuan James were on the second team.

The full preseason all-SEC rosters and preseason predictions are below.
