UPDATE: Victim identified in I-75 crash

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

All lanes of Interstate 75 southbound have been re-opened to traffic in Georgia after a serious tractor trailer accident this afternoon.

The accident took place near mile marker 343. According to Georgia State Patrol, a tractor trailer was idling in the slow lane waiting to enter a weigh station when another tractor trailer, driven by William Gene Guinn, 61, of Delano rammed into it.

The impact crushed the container the first trailer was carrying and caused the steel reinforcement in the cab of the second trailer to buckle which then caused the load the second trailer was carrying to crash into the cab, killing the driver.

No names have been released. GSP is investigating.

Southbound traffic is being diverted from the interstate at Exit 345.

This has both the interstate and nearby surface streets backed up. GDOT tells us that traffic is congested to Battlefield Parkway, which about a seven-mile back-up.

The use of an alternate route is suggested.
