CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Brooke Copeland still has another year left in the gym at Bradley Central High School, but the standout post player is making plans for what will follow.

Copeland verbally committed over the weekend to play college basketball at Florida, choosing the Gators from a pile of nearly three dozen scholarship offers.

The 6-foot-2 rising senior is ranked as the No. 10 post player in the nation by ESPN and garnered attention from schools throughout the SEC and ACC. Copeland won all-state honors in both volleyball and basketball as junior and was named the Times Free Press Female Athlete of the Year at the annual Best of Preps banquet last month.

A three-year starter for the Bearettes, Copeland averaged 19.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game last year to help Bradley Central snap a 12-year state tournament drought. She plays summer ball for the Tennessee Nike Flight, which recently claimed its second straight AAU national championship.

Copeland is the latest product of an athletic family tree.

Her brother, Bryce, has signed to continue his basketball career next fall at Lee University. Copeland's uncle, Chad, played college basketball at Florida State and Chattanooga, while her father, Brian (Tennessee Tech), and another uncle, Brent (UTC), both played college football.
