Spotty showers and storms today

Posted: Updated:

Good Thursday.  These are a few highlights from the "storm report list" that greeted me this morning...

-Tree down on Black Oak Ridge Rd in Dayton.
-A few trees down in Whitwell
-Several trees and power lines down around Soddy Daisy.
-South Pittsburg 3 feet of water running down several streets last night. Also reports of flowing water through homes.

All of this was in response to 2"-4" of rain that fell last night in advance of a front that will pushing through the area today.

As it moves through, we can still expect to see some scattered showers and storms through the afternoon.  Highs today will be in the upper 80s.

Tonight, we will see some drier air moving in behind the front, so look for partly cloudy skies tonight into tomorrow.  Humidity levels will also be falling a bit, making your Friday feel a little more tolerable.

I don't expect much (if any) rain Friday or Saturday, but moisture will begin to return Sunday as a trough of low pressure backs into the area from the east.  I expect widely scattered showers Sunday.

Even though Tropical Storm Chantal has fizzled, moisture from that system could combine with that trough of low pressure to produce a rainy start to next week as well.
