SLIDESHOW: Severe thunderstorms in the TN Valley
UPDATE:Several roads and yards of residences are flooded in Trenton.
Several roads in South Pittsburg are closed.
There are several trees and power lines down across the Soddy-Daisy area.
There are a few trees down around the Whitwell area.
Underwood Road, Strain Road, Dawnville Beaverdale Road and Beaverdale Road in Dalton are all impassable due to high water.
Airport Road near the Murray County line in Dalton is closed due to 2 feet of water covering the roadway.
There is also one tree down on Black Oak Ridge Road in Dayton.
Cleveland Highway at North Hills Drive in Cohutta is impassable due to high water.
Strong storms entering north Georgia. Hail, gusty winds and dangerous lightning expected.
The heat and humidity will combine to kick off a few showers and thunderstorms for tonight and again tomorrow. A cold front will approach, too. This time of year, we do not usually see cold fronts get this close. But this is not a usual year. The rainfall amounts will be in the range of 1-2 inches. Amounts will vary with some spots getting less and a few more. Highs on Thursday will be in the mid 80's and Friday near 87.
This weekend we should have generally dry weather with only a very small chance for a storm on Sunday in the Smokies. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 80's with highs on Sunday near 89.
Next week we should see seasonable weather with the chance for rain dropping a bit. High temperatures will be in the upper 80's to low 90's. Lows will be near 70. The average for this time of year is 90 and 70. Only isolated storms are expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tropical Storm Chantal does not appear to have very strong winds. it expected to become a Tropical Depression as it heads over Cuba and later to south Florida if it can hold together.
