Dalton's mayor has filed for a higher post.

A Georgia newspaper is reporting that David Pennington, the current mayor of Dalton, has filed paperwork that allows him to begin raising campaign funds for a gubernatorial run.

In March of this year, Pennington told our news partners at the Times Free Press he is considering a run for governor of Georgia.

Pennington, has been called "King David" for his ruthless approach to budget cutting and tax slashing.

He says the current governor has done nothing to help the poor economy of the state.

He said that conservatives and small-business owners across the state urged him to enter the race.

Pennington also says that Georgia is ranked dead last in its Citizens' Financial Security and Labor Participation Rates.
