A swift water rescue team was called out late Sunday afternoon to rescue two teenagers on the Piney River.

Swollen by the recent heavy rains, the river's volume increased substantially.

The two teenagers were tubing on the river when their inner tubes struck trees and deflated.
One made it safely to shore, and was able to summon a passing car and rescue personnel were called.

The Rhea County Rescue squad arrived shortly afterwards and was able to rescue the stranded teen, who was hanging onto trees and branches to avoid being swept away by the rushing water.

Neither teen was seriously injured.
