Tree falls on Hixson home

Posted: Updated:

Several homes located in Hixson along Old Dayton Pike experienced damage over the weekend.

Public Works crews spent hours removing downed power lines and debris.

Marilynn Stewart is one of the many affected. Her home is completely covered up by a 100-year-old fallen walnut tree.

While Marilynn and her son were sleeping, they heard a loud noise that woke them both up in the middle of the night.

"It shook the house while I was in the bed I was sleeping," Jess Stewart said.

Marilynn says her heart was pounding as she laid in bed terrified not knowing what happened. Her son - also frightened -  ran to check on his mother first before calling 911.

"It was a thump, thump, thump, and that was the number of branches coming through the house and then I ran to see if anything was laying on her."

The Stewart's were not injured.  Their insurance adjuster is stopping by Monday to access the damage as are crews to remove the tree.
