CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Mother Nature didn't want to see a full nine innings of baseball at AT&T Field on the Fourth of July, but the Lookouts made the most of the little she allowed.
J.T. Wise drove in two runs and Zach Lee pitched five-plus shutout innings to lead Chattanooga to a 2-0 win over Jacksonville in the opener of a five-game series.
The game was suspended with one out in the sixth inning when the rain picked up. Southern League rules mandate the game becomes official past the halfway point of 4.5 innings.
Rafael Ynoa and Ozzie Martinez each had two hits and combined to score both Chattanooga (8-8 in second half, 43-43 overall) runs. Wise drove in Martinez on an RBI-double in the first and later plated Ynoa with a groundout to third in the third.
Lee (7-5) gave up three hits and struck out five while extending his scoreless streak to 17.1 innings.
The two teams will play game two of the series Friday night at 7:15 p.m. ET.
