APISON, TN (WRCB) -

Outside, painters tackled siding. Inside carpenters trimmed windows and doors.

A house becoming a home for Specialist Andrew Smith and his wife Tori.

Tori was actually out there helping us build, so I said well I guess I can help Tori build a house since she helped me build my house," said Dan Lampard.

Volunteers like Dan Lampard will have to wait until the big reveal to see the couple's reaction to what's inside.

Andrew and Tori kept busy down the hill clearing brush and painting a barn.

They've been asked to stay away from the build site as construction continues.

"Well they can't hardly stand it but that will be neat. It will be neat to see their reaction," said Lampard.

Others won't have to wait that long.

"Fantastic. I've never seen anything like it," said Richard Thomas Harris.

World War II Navy Veteran Richard Harris lives down the street.

The 86-year-old had to see for himself what the community is doing for a local soldier.

"It says something good about Chattanooga, always there to help. It's not the first time but it's one of the best things to ever happen," said Harris.

And knowing he had a hand in it, is what makes Dan Lampard so proud. 

"I look forward to seeing them here and enjoying it and knowing that we were a part of it," said Lampard.
