KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The last patients have been moved from Lakeshore Mental Health Institute in Knoxville and the remaining staffers are laid off.

Only 14 workers were left when the hospital's doors closed for good.

WATE-TV reported those staffers were laid off when the new state fiscal year began Monday.

The last dozen patients were put into the care of the Helen Ross McNabb Center in a new long-term care program.

WBIR-TV earlier reported that Lakeshore once had some 3,000 patients. The last patients were moved to Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in Chattanooga or placed in private care facilities.

The state turned over the property to the city of Knoxville.
