LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, TN (WRCB) -

Lifeforce responded to the scene of a high fall on Lookout Mountain Sunday afternoon.

Crews were called around 1:30pm to a fallen hiker on Sunset Rock approximately half a mile in the trail.

Hamilton County Emergency Services spokesperson Amy Maxwell says a 30-year-old man fell 50 feet and sustained critical injuries.

A doctor with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Cave and Cliff team says he suffered severe head, shoulder, and back injuries.

"He climbed half way up a 60, 70 foot cliff and fell half that distance off a ledge that was about 10 feet wide," says Dr. David Wharton, with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Cave and Cliff team.

Lookout Mountain Fire and Police, Chattanooga-Hamilton County Cave and Cliff team, Hamilton County EMS and Erlanger Lifeforce responded to the scene.

It took rescue crews several hours to get the hiker out.
