UTC's Britt advances at TN Women's Amateur

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Jordan Britt won twice in match play Wednesday to stand as the only local golfer in the quarterfinals of the championship flight after day three of the Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club.

Britt, who finished ninth in two stroke-play qualifying rounds, opened with a 6-and-4 win over Lindsay Leigh Davis (New Tazwell, TN) in the round of 32 before eliminating Ooltewah's Maddi Everts 1-up in the round of 16.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga star and former Signal Mountain High standout will face top-seeded Kendall Martindale in Thursday morning's quarterfinal with a chance to advance to the afternoon's semifinal match.

Champions will be crowned Friday with a 36-hole finale.

Baylor's Blakesly Warren and Soddy-Daisy's Jessica Cathey joined Britt and Everts in winning first round matches in the morning session.

Warren topped Knoxville's Kelli Pemberton by a 1-up score. However, the bracket's fourth seed was ousted in the round of 16 by Hermitage's Sarah Harris by the same score.

Cathey beat Nashville's Rachel Johnson 2-and-1 to advance to the round of 16, but was eliminated in the afternoon by Knoxville's Allie Knight 4-and-3.

Everts, who finished 25th in stroke play, upset eighth-seeded Sarah Matthews of Memphis 1-up in the opening round before losing to Britt.

Mary Alice Murphy (Lookout Mountain), Lauren Johnson (Signal Mountain) and Sarah Dolmovich (Signal Mountain) all lost their first-round matches. Murphy, a Mercer standout, finished third in stroke play but was upset in a 6-and-5 rout by Livingston's Emily Miller in the round of 32.
