Murray County authorities had to evacuate a Georgia Highway residence after finding smoke and a device that turned out to be an active meth lab Monday around 12 p.m.

Officers from the Murray County Sheriff's Office arrived to 4286 GA Highway 225 N. to help State Probation serve an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Michael Ray Dean.

After authorities arrested Dean, they saw smoke and a plastic bottle with hose connected and officers determined that to be a homemade meth lab.  Officers evacuated the home and called narcotics investigators who ended up finding a small amount of meth as well as supplies to make the drug.

Dean was charged with manufacturing meth, manufacturing meth within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of meth and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
