Cleveland city installs new security doors in schools

Posted: Updated:

The beginning stages to install new locked front doors at Cleveland City Schools began early Monday morning.

Construction workers tore down the old doors and cleared the way for what will be a new state of the art key pad security system.

When the school year resumes, parents will no longer be able to walk through the front. They will first need the approval of the on-duty security resource officer before receiving access to enter.

The new addition to help ensure a safer classroom received a thumbs up from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

"The classroom should be a learning environment, not an environment where a child is fearful," Captain Campbell said, "When a parent drops their child off they should feel confident that child will not be harmed. "

The security doors should take about two weeks to complete.
