CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Interstate 75 Southbound re-opened nearly five hours after an early morning crash.

A tractor trailer carrying hazardous material crashed on Friday morning just before 5:30 a.m. and closed southbound Interstate 75.

The Chattanooga Fire Department tweeted that the trailer's contents were leaking. Haz-Mat crews were dispatched to handle the material safely.

The Chattanooga Police Department later said in a news releases that the truck was hauling containers of liquid floor stripper.

A few gallons spilled onto the roadway but it was not considered harmful to the nearby community.

The accident happened south of the East Brainerd Road exit on the southbound side of I-75.

Traffic was been diverted to surface streets, and TDOT's Smartway system showed traffic congested on Lee Highway, East Brainerd Road and Amincola Highway.
