Former GA senator dies

Former Georgia state senator Nathan Dean passed away Saturday.

Dean served in the Georgia House of Representatives for 12 years and was then elected to the Georgia State Senate where he served for 30 years.

He was remembered as a hardworking and effective member of the Senate.

After he retired, he continued to serve the community as a member of the Board for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

He is quoted as saying, "I was born to serve people and shake hands."

Dean was from Rockmart, Georgia and an Army veteran. He was 79.

Funeral services for Senator Dean will be held on Tuesday, June 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart.

Interment services will follow in the family lot of Rose Hill Cemetery with Dr. Greg Thompson officiating and the West Georgia Masonic Memorial Club in charge of Masonic graveside rites.

Senator Dean will be taken to the church to lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
