State Supreme Court denies appeal in deadly child abuse case

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

The case of a Hamilton County woman facing trial in connection with her infant daughter's death will continue on as planned.

Traci Carpenter could face two decades in prison if a jury finds her guilty of aggravated child neglect.

Her daughter Sierra died at 18 months old in 2006.

The medical examiner said her death was due to abuse.

Carpenter's boyfriend, Brian Rutherford, has already been to trial over the death.

He was acquitted in 2008.

The Tennessee Supreme Court denied a request from Carpenter's attorney, Lee Davis, for a pre-trial appeal.

Traci Carpenter will appear in court on August 7, for a status hearing.
