UPDATE: I-75 Southbound reopens, but delays remain

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: I-75 Southbound has re-opened, but motorists should expect delays as traffic begins to flow at normal rates.

A serious accident on I-75 southbound Tuesday morning partially closed the southbound lanes as rescue workers helped attend to those involved.

A tractor trailer and a second vehicle collided, leaving most of the southbound lanes blocked. Dispatchers are saying that the accident may involve an entrapment in one of the vehicles.

Given the traffic load of the I-75 corridor, motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes if possible.

Traffic appears to backing up in both northbound and southbound lanes from the accident and rubbernecking.

Complicating the traffic is a load of shipping palettes that may have fallen onto I-75 at the Hamilton Place Mall exit.
