Searching for a home - tornado puppies await adoption

Posted: Updated:

SAUKVILLE, WI (WTMJ) - The Wisconsin Humane Society has opened their doors to 22 dogs and puppies that are in need of a loving home after an EF-5 tornado ripped through Moore, Oklahoma.

"We helped to take some of the dogs and puppies from Oklahoma so that they could make room in their shelter for animals that were a part of the tornado, so these were guys that were already at the shelter before the tornado hit," Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus Director Beth Maresh explained.

Every dog but a two-year-old terrier named "Guy" have found homes in southeastern Wisconsin, but even "Guy" is getting some attention after medical treatment cleared him to be finally put up for adoption.

Just like "Guy", some of the new pups will have to practice patience before they can be adopted Maresh explains.

"Some of the dogs came in with little colds or possibly needing some dental work so when that happens it may just take a couple more days to get into adoption," she explained.

But the wait won't last long once they are cleared by the veterinarian, Maresh thinks their story is too compelling.

But now the dogs and puppies displaced from their Oklahoma shelter need a home. Labrador-retriever mix 2 month old puppy King and his siblings Ace and Spade are a little sleepy after their check-ups, but all paws seem to be in order. Maresh knows King and his litter-mates will soon be out of her sight.

"He's just looking for a wonderful new home and he's glad to be in Wisconsin where he can find that," she said.
