A Guatemalan man was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for human trafficking.

Investigators say German Rolando Vicente-Sapon, 41, transported a minor across the Mexican border for sexual purposes.

According to proof presented at trial, a 16-year-old girl was transported to Chattanooga, Tennessee from Guatemala. The girl was facing an arranged marriage and Vicente-Sapon offered to bring her to the U.S. for a better life.

He paid $2,000 to have the girl smuggled into Chattanooga and then he coerced her into having sex with him. She consented, believing she had no other choice.

Vicente-Sapon claimed he had fallen in love with the girl.

Vicente-Sapon was found guilty of transporting a minor across the Mexican border for unlawful sexual activity and two additional smuggling charges.

He was sentenced to 188 months in prison.
